Chapter 36. My Wife's Phone Call
At five o'clock, Shen Xi stood up on time, sorted out the documents on the table, put on his coat, and walked out of the office.
"Boss Shen, is there something going on?" Secretary Chen saw Shen Xi coming out of the office and habitually thought that he had some temporary official business to deal with, so he stood up quickly.
"It's okay, you should get off work early today." Shen Xi turned his head and glanced at Secretary Chen. His expression was inexplicably gentler, and it could be seen that he was in a very good mood.
Secretary Chen: “…?”
After leaving the office building, everyone looked at Shen Xi who had just come out at the end of the work day. They looked at each other and could see the surprise in each other’s eyes.
"Hello, Mr. Shen!"
"Thank you for your hard work. You should get some rest early."
"Okay, Mr. Shen."
Getting in the car, the man thought about whether he should call Yi Ruo, but suddenly a jewelry store outside the car flashed across his eyes, and he suddenly remembered the pair of white hands as white as cream but empty.
Pointing at the armrest with his finger, he said:
"Stop the car."
"Okay, boss."
The sleek black Bentley slowly stopped by the roadside and the door opened.
"I'm going downstairs to buy something, just wait for me in the car." Shen Xi instructed.
When he entered the store, the waiter standing next to him asked softly:
"Hello, sir. What may I do for you?"
Shen Xi looked at the dazzling array of jewelry displays and suddenly regretted his impulsiveness.
He had only been in love once in his life, and had only chosen gifts for a woman he had loved for 10 years. He had never thought that one day he would personally choose jewelry for another woman.
"Buzz buzz"
Shen Xi picked up the phone and saw the call from 'Yi Ruo'. He clicked to answer it and a slightly coquettish voice came over.
"It's already past 5 o'clock, why haven't you come back yet?" Shen Xi listened to her coquettishness and could imagine her lying on the sofa listlessly, with her legs dangling, and calling him listlessly.
Shen Xi smiled softly and said, "Well, I'll be back soon. Wait for a while, okay?"
"Okay, then hurry up. I'm starving." Yi Ruo said weakly.
"Okay, be good."
After hanging up the phone, Shen Xi turned to the jewelry in the glass window and looked at it carefully. After choosing for a while, he finally selected a bracelet. It was a slender bracelet, simple yet exquisite. It looked crystal clear overall and suited her very well.
"Sir, the bracelet has been wrapped for you. I believe your wife will like it very much."
The waiter said enviously as he looked at the wedding ring shining silver on the man's ring finger when he raised his hand to take it.
After hearing this, Shen Xi's slightly upturned lips suddenly paused, and he said lightly: "Yeah."
She didn't know why the man's eyes suddenly changed, but she was smart enough to stop talking and got up to open the door for him.
Before leaving, she seemed to hear the man's soft voice saying, "She won't like it."
When she wanted to listen carefully again, the man had already walked away.
Shen Xi put the box aside and sat in the car in silence.
---
"You're back!" Yi Ruo heard the sound of the key being inserted into the door, and quickly ran to the door and hugged the man who had just entered.
Shen Xi reached out to catch Yi Ruo, hugged her and laughed out loud.
"So enthusiastic." He pushed Yi Ruo away slightly, looking at the happiness that could not be concealed between the woman's eyebrows. He couldn't deny that he felt inexplicably satisfied.
"That's right. You weren't here the whole day today and I missed you so much." Yi Ruo lowered her eyes slightly and said shyly.
His throat couldn't help laughing again. He pulled Yi Ruo into the house, gently held her in his arms, rested his head on her shoulder, and enjoyed a moment of peace before saying, "Let's go out to eat?"
"Okay, I want to eat the most expensive thing!" Yi Ruo raised her head and looked at Shen Xi with bright eyes.
“Hahaha, okay, let’s go eat the most expensive food!”
After saying that, he took Yi Ruo’s hand and was about to walk out the door.
As soon as he got outside the door, the phone in Shen Xi's pocket rang. It was the special ringtone his wife had set for him. Shen Xi stopped, picked up his phone, and looked at Yi Ruo behind him hesitantly.
Yi Ruo also saw the note in the call display, paused, and looked at Shen Xi with a bit of confusion in her eyes.
"It's okay, you answer it. I...I'll go get a glass of water first." Yi Ruo lowered her head and said softly, pulling her hand out of the man's hand and turning to leave.
Shen Xi looked at Yi Ruo, whose smile had disappeared, leaving only a hint of bitterness and a look of compromise in her eyes, and he couldn't help but hold Yi Ruo's hand.
Yi Ruo turned around, smiled gently and shook her head to indicate that it was okay. Shen Xi tightened his grip on her hand guiltily, then let go and looked at Yi Ruo's back as she turned around, then answered the phone.
After the call was connected, the man opened his mouth, but he couldn't utter the word "wife" that he was used to calling. He could only wait silently for his wife to speak first.
"Honey, what's wrong?" The wife felt a little puzzled by the man's silence.
"It's okay, what's wrong?" Shen Xi walked out the door, put one hand in his pocket, leaned against the wall, lowered his head and spoke gently.
"I miss you. I haven't called you for a week. I was too busy." The woman said apologetically.
There was a gleam in Shen Xi's eyes, and he didn't seem to realize that he hadn't spoken to his wife for a week. This week passed very quickly and wantonly, with a strong and passionate feeling filling his entire senses, and he didn't have much energy to be distracted.
"Well, it's okay. I understand." The man comforted his wife.
